April 5, 2020

We, along with the rest of the world, are ready for a cure for Covid-19.  I readily admit that I have things the easiest.  I get up in the  morning and go to work alone in a shop, and occasionally I go to a store for tools or supplies.  Amy and the kids, however, stay home all day everyday in accordance with the governors stay-home order.  On top of that, it was a cold windy, rainy, snowy week.  I think everyone is suffering from cabin fever.

The chickens have grown a lot!  It seems like they have grown 25% every time I see them.  They were all supposed to be females, but I think a rooster might have snuck in with the bunch.  On Monday or Tuesday night, about every half hour one of the chicks would let loose with this piercing chirp that penetrated two closed doors and woke Amy up every time.  I have become a deep sleeper, so I didn’t hear it most of the time.   The next night I turned on a small fan in our room which, when combined with two closed doors, drowned out the little rooster’s call.

Wednesday was a cold windy day.  I was walking out the garage door, and somehow a gust of wind caught the door and slammed it on the end of my finger.  My nail immediately turned black, and I’m sure I will lose the nail.  I had trouble sleeping that night and after laying awake for an hour, I took a maximum dose of ibuprofen and read Allistair MacLean until I fell asleep.

With the weather so bad, Amy and the kids painted some amazing things for the fairy garden.  I’ll include pictures.  Amy is an amazing artist, but seldom has time to sit down and paint.  Several of the kids have inherited the talent, and I just shake my head in wonder at the things they produce.

I also have to mention Amy's biscuits.  These are the best biscuits I've ever had!  Look how light and flakey they are!

Friday night Amy and I went on a date, which consisted of picking up carry-out Thai food, and eating it while we people-watched at the grocery store.  We also drove to the temple.  We have tried to attend the temple once a week, and decided we would at least drive by until it reopens.  I think it is interesting that we are not the only ones in the parking lot when we drive through.  I think a lot of people are anxious for the temples to reopen.

Saturday was Amy’s birthday.  I’m not sure what the conclusion was about her age.  It seems to be 29, 35, or 39.  The kids sent me a list of the gifts they would like to give her, and I went to Walmart (with a mask) and did everyone’s shopping for them.  Isabelle made a cookies and cream cake that was delicious!  The day’s festivities consisted of watching the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It is always a wonderful experience, and this year was no exception.  It was kind of strange to see the live shots of an empty Temple Square in Salt Lake, and to see the First Presidency and the speakers as the only people in the room from which the conference was broadcast.  After three sessions, we had birthday cake and opened presents, then Amy and I watched a couple of episodes of Larkrise to Candleford to finish off the day.

The kids decided to do a Harry Potter marathon, and have made it through five of the eight movies.  The dishwasher broke down, so there are lots of hours spent doing dishes by hand.  Mostly by Amy, but the kids and I help.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that on January 31st, our suburban was totaled.  We finally received a check from the insurance company this week.  Yay!

Well, that is all I can remember.  It was a pretty quiet week.
